Introduction to San Gimignano

After we have done lots of research on a place in Italy called San Gimignano, we have decided to make a blog to show what we have researched. The reason why we are researching is for a walled city around the world. We have done some research together as a class, on a place called Fanling, which is a place in China. San Gimignano

San Gimignano is a walled city in Tuscany, Italy. The walls were built for defending them against wild animals and enemies. They were built by some people called the Etruscans. San Gimignano's population decreased a lot when the Black Death Plague struck the city. The walls have been there around 19 centuries (around the 3rd century) from the modern day. There are 14 towers remaining but there used to be 72! The demolishing of the towers came back from WWII. Nowadays, they are making a museum out of the town so that tourists can see some historic information. San Gimignano was founded by a tribe called the Etruscans (almost the romans). Nowadays, they use the buildings as a tourist attraction or as apartments. They have renovated some of the ruins that got destroyed in the II world war but they kept most of the ruins to make money.
